FROM COMMANDING OFFICER DESK

The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) has highlighted training, particularly
technical training, as one of the main focuses of his Vision for the Nigerian
Navy (NN). The recent commencement of the Apprentice School is one of
the strategies to drive this Vision. This strategy is equally vital to sustaining
the indigenous shipbuilding effort of the NN and Nigeria.
To members of Basic Apprentice Course IV (BAC-IV), I welcome you to
NDAS and congratulate you on your nomination. I equally wish to inform
you of the task ahead. The NN has invested in your training to sustain
operation availability and efficiency. The investment in your training aims to
proffer solutions to challenges of indigenous shipbuilding requirements as
well as domesticating and improving local ship production. The Course
highlights and syllabus are structured towards achieving these tasks.
During your course, NDAS demands one hundred per cent loyalty,
discipline and absolute dedication to training. You must show readiness to
learn and execute assigned tasks with zero margins for errors. The
graduates that NDAS expects should be worthy ambassadors of the School
and give a good account of themselves whenever the situation demands.
You must free yourselves from all excuses and the temptation to lay back in
your training. You can be assured that my staff and I will notice your
positive attitudes and efforts towards your training. The dedicated team of
NDAS are ready to deliver the best training programme possible.
At this juncture, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the CNS for
the investments in infrastructure and teaching aids at NDAS and the
continuous support in ensuring that the School took off, was adequately

maintained and was able to achieve its mandate. We are indeed very
grateful. Certainly, the NN can now contribute more to the technological
advancement of the Nation, local human resources development and
Nigerian content actualization. Let me also use this opportunity to
appreciate the personnel and civilian staff of the School as well as the
Naval Dockyard Limited for your commitment to progress. Onward together,
and God bless you all.
